Welcome ....

I will try and keep upto date on all Notts County news , on and off the pitch aswell as adding pictures and videos from this season.

Hopefully this year won't be as depressing as the last - where the Magpies escaped the drop by 6 points.

Manager Charlie McParland has had to clear the deadwood (once again) and re-build a squad which should be challenging for the Playoffs.

My personal prediction is a respectable mid table finish.

Also look out for my articles in the Notts County Matchday Programme !

Bradford 2 Notts 1

On the train home I was thinking about the past opening day fixtures. One that stood out was an away game against Bristol City and the Magpies were totally outclassed and lost 5-0. This year Notts faced the favourites not just for promotion , but for the title.

Notts wheathered the early Bradford storm and could have gone ahead through Jamie Forrester who worked the ball onto his right foot , but from inside the box he could only weakly shoot straight at the 'keeper. His strike partner Delroy Facey also had a half chance but also shot at Evans in goal.

However it was a household name that scored the first goal. Peter Thorne who scored 3 last term in this fixture , scored with his head. The ball was crossed in forecelly by Arnison the City full-back and Thorne changed his stance and directed the ball past Pilks.

In the second half Notts dominated. Excellent wing play by both Hamshaw and Weston caused endless trouble and Facey really should have burried a chance to equalise. Hamshaw's cross wasn't cleared by the dominate Lee and Facey just didn't expect it to come to him.

Minutes later Bradford got their second. An awful slice of a clearance by Adam Nowland fell straight to Thorne who acrobatically shot past Pilks to make it 2-0.

Notts did get a deserved goal with 18 minutes remaining. Weston's trickery on the left wing teased the full-back and he pulled the ball back , which Facey left to Butcher to side into the bottom corner.

Notts could have had a second with many half chances and a possible penalty claimin the dying second , but it wasnt to be. It was a decent enough start by the Magpies. Hopefully Charlie can build on this performance and give Donny some problems on Tuesday at the Lane. It was a good day out with over 800 Notts fans who added to the atmosphere.

One thing is for sure , it was no where near the horrible game against Bristol , when they were Champions elect.
