What a fantastic performance from Notts tonight and certainly worth the £5 to get in! Donny were high on confidence after being Derby on Saturday , whilst Notts were looking for fringe players to gain match fitness - MacKenzie, Smith , Tann , Fairclough , Weir-Daley.
Rovers went close in the first half with Roberts long range drive clipping the crossbar. While in the second half Notts could have won it in normal time. First Fairclough shot was blocked when clear on goal and then captain Mike Edwards controlled brilliantly but lashed his powerful shot over the crossbar in the final minutes.
Both first team wingers Hamshaw and Weston came on for the final stages and their quality shone through. Especially Myles who is looking a different class. Chants of "Weston for England" rang round the Kop as he terrorised the full back. And it apt that former Charlton winger struck the goal to take Notts to round 2.
Weston on the left gave a short one-two from Smith and shot expertly low and powerful past Neil Sullivan.
Notts then comfortably held out for a famous victory. The Notts fans now need to keep their feet on the ground. Yes it was a fantastic victory without Johno,Forrester,Hoult,Nowland,Strachan and Hunt BUT their is a bigger match this Saturday against Darlington !!
Man of the Match : Jay Smith
